If your caravan, motorhome, or campervan has a 230V electrical installation, it's a legal requirement in New Zealand to hold a current Electrical Warrant of Fitness (EWOF). Without one, you could be breaking the rules — and putting lives at risk.
At Sparky G Limited, we make the process straightforward. As a Registered Electrical Inspector (REI) carries out EWOF inspections and any required remedial work — so you deal with one qualified expert from start to finish.
We service caravans, motorhomes, campervans, fifth-wheelers, food trailers, and imported vehicles right across Auckland.
What Is an EWOF?
An Electrical Warrant of Fitness is a mandatory compliance certificate for any caravan, motorhome, or transportable structure that has a 230V (mains voltage) electrical installation. It confirms that the electrical system has been inspected by a Registered Electrical Inspector and meets the requirements of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010,AS/NZS 3001.2 and AS/NZS 3000
Think of it like a WOF for your vehicle — but for the electrical system inside it.
EWOF certificates are valid for:
4 years for a new installation and renewal every 4 years
Who Needs an EWOF?
You need a current EWOF if you own or operate any of the following with a 230V electrical system:
Caravans
Motorhomes
Campervans
Fifth-wheelers
Converted vans (sleeper/camper conversions)
Food trailers and mobile catering units
Imported vehicles with onboard 230V electrics
If you're unsure whether your vehicle requires an EWOF, give us a call — we're happy to advise at no obligation.
What Does Our EWOF Inspection Cover?
Our thorough inspection checks the full 230V electrical installation, including:
Switchboard and circuit protection — RCDs, MCBs
Wiring condition — insulation integrity, routing, and fixing
Earthing and bonding — continuity and compliance
Socket outlets and connections — testing for safe operation
Appliance and fixed equipment connections
Mains inlet and external connection points
240V/12V system interaction — chargers, inverters, and isolators
Solar and battery system integration (where applicable)
General safety and compliance with AS/NZS 3001.2
At the end of the inspection, we issue the EWOF certificate if compliant, or provide a clear written report of what needs to be rectified — and we can carry out those repairs too.

Wiring standards differ between countries, and many imported units require modifications to meet NZ requirements.
